Advocacy is an integral component of the work of Catholic Charities. The very mission of our organization is to advocate for justice on behalf of vulnerable populations‐those that do not have the voice and the means to enjoy a respectable quality of living. “Advocacy recognizes that there is a story behind every issue, and a story behind every face. Advocacy allows us to speak on behalf of our consumers and most importantly to encourage our consumers to speak out for themselves. Advocacy, paired with the critical services we provide is a powerful tool of healing and change.”

At Catholic Family and Community Services, we strive to not only eliminate poverty but to break the cycle of poverty. It is important that CFCS makes a lasting impact, through early childhood education, informational resources, and job development, to combat cyclical poverty in the community of Paterson and surrounding areas so that future generations will not be burdened by similar hardships.

Every action we take is in support of legislation that will have a direct and positive impact on those we serve.

Some of our priority issues includes:

  • Homelessness Prevention
  • Hunger relief/food security
  • Immigration reform
  • Improving children’s welfare
  • Increasing awareness of domestic abuse
  • Improving access to health care
  • Increasing access to necessary services for the mentally ill and disabled
